“Do you have any idea what that money could have been used for?” Most church leaders have heard this either outright or through the gossip chain. It doesn’t matter how big your church is, someone always finds a way to gripe about the way money is spent. The implication of a statement like this is typically that the church should be doing more to help the poor and the less fortunate. Certainly that’s important.
It also reminds me of this guy who complained when a woman poured expensive perfume on Jesus’ feet. He seemed to think it was a wasted opportunity to help the poor. I bet he had a real heart to help those people. He probably spent a great deal of his own money on it too. Now, what was his name again?
